Audi - TT

 (  1999-06  )
4 / 5
+ Strong image, high quality and still desirable
+ Four-wheel drive gives superb handling and grip
+ Mechanically tough, beautifully crafted inside and out
- Coupe's rear seats are too tight for adults
- Rather expensive for what it offers
- Extras can push prices even higher
TT offers sensational styling, great performance and high quality interior. Despite steady sales, it remains a very special car that still turns heads, although the coupe struggles to seat four.
More than five years on, the compactly curvaceous TT coupe and open topped roadster still manage to claim lots of attention - and that's why many people buy them! And the TT manages to be just as engaging and stimulating inside. High quality materials and fine metal details make it a real delight.
Less impressive are the coupe's token rear seats (which at least can be folded down to make a very decent enlarged boot).
Some have criticised the fact that the TT is based on the more humble Golf, but the standard four-wheel drive system means that it remains glued to the road in all weathers. It's an easy car to drive quickly and confidently, although the steering may not be sharp enough for the enthusiast. Comfort-seekers could also find the suspension too hard. The latest 3.2 V6 model is not much quicker but incorporates a superb automatic gearbox.
