Chrysler Grand Voyager 2001-2004

knobby

quoteIf you are in search of a car, which is powerful and big enough to carry seven people then Grand Voyager is the perfect option. Chrysler's Grand Voyager is designed to provide 7 people with full sized seats which are comfortable. The Voyager even has adequate space left over for their luggage. The remarkable feature of this car is that it offers a pleasant ride on longer journeys and allows seven people to travel in comfort.quote

Pros and Cons:

  • Plenty of space
    Comfortable driving position
  • Seats are heavy to lift out
    Expensive repair costs
Not as well designed as its rivals

bullet Exterior and Interior

The Voyager comes in both a short and long wheelbase options with the long wheelbase being labelled the grand Voyager. It comes with an extra 13 inches in length to offer proper seating arrangement for all its passengers. The passenger seats have been finely designed and can be easily folded into the car floor which Chrysler have called 'Stow 'n' Go' seats. There is a lot of equipment available which the basic trim offers making it almost pointless to opt for a more expensive trim.

bullet Engines

The Grand Voyager comes with the option of two 3.3-litre V6 petrol engines as well as a 2.5-litre and 2.8-litre CRD diesel engines.

bullet Performance and Economy

As one would expect of a vehicle of this size the handling feels big and heavy and steering that doesn't feel at all sharp. Bumps in the road can be felt throughout the cabin and these feelings are much worse the further back you are sat in the vehicle. Although it does feel unwieldy when turning on the roads it is surprisingly easy to park thanks to the power steering and good all round views. It does do a surprisingly good job of keeping the road and wind noise to a minimum but you will always be able to hear the roar of the engine no matter which one you opt for. The diesels are the better engines to go for as they have better fuel efficiency managing between 30 and 35mpg and are much better at lugging the Voyager around when it's full of passengers and luggage. The petrol engines only manage around 23mpg and have to be revved to the extreme in order to manage anywhere near as well as the diesels when fully loaded. The insurance isn't particularly cheap either with all of them falling into the group 16.

bullet What it's like to Drive

The Voyager offers a comfortable driving position for the driver and the controls are well laid out and easy to use. The driver also has a good commanding view of the road ahead as well as good visibility out of the back and sides.

bullet Faults and Repairs

The Voyager did struggle with gearbox problems mainly in the diesel engines at the beginning. Most of them were sorted out but it's worth just checking before hand. Because of the weight of the vehicle the brakes and suspension do need to be carefully monitored to make sure they don't need replacing. The repair costs are pricy too with the Chrysler garages charging a lot more than their rivals for routine maintenance.
