Daihatsu - Cuore |

1997-03
This small hatchback is affordable, cheap to run and easy to drive around town. That's why it makes an excellent first car. Although it's a little cramped inside and unsuitable for longer trips, it's also well equipped, reliable and good fun.

Available with three or five doors, though neither is very roomy and there's only a small boot. The driving position is upright with little adjustment, though all the controls are well within reach.
Original cars have only a 850cc engine. Those from 1999 get a 1.0, but the best cars are from 2002 when it was uprated for the final time. The engine is quicker, more economical and worth paying a little extra for. Its compact dimensions and tight turning circle make Cuore easy to drive, while responsive steering, its peppy engine and a light body make it fun too.
It's exceptionally cheap to insure and tax, easy to service and capable of 55mpg+ fuel consumption. It hasn't been crash-tested by Euro NCAP and safety equipment could be better - ABS was never fitted as standard. A re-worked version is sold as the Perodua Kelisa.
