The Ford Mondeo MK4 (07-) is the latest and probably the best addition to the line Mondeo's. Ford have continued to improve on the Mondeo and their owners continue to be impresses by the comfort, style, affordability and the experience of driving the latest model. The Mondeo continues to offer a wide range of trim levels that are likely to suit the majority of owners.
Exterior and InteriorThe Ford Mondeo (07-) exterior styling has been improved upon but the it is now a big car. This doesn't detract from the style though and many of the models are very desirable. Many of the models will have alloy wheels and additional sporty touches which help with the desirability of the vehicle. Where the Mondeo has really improved is on the inside. The interior now offers excellent comfort to a modern and enjoyable space. Five adults can easily fit into the cabin and it will not feel tight. This classy environment has all of the modern features that you would look for in a vehicle which helps to finish off this excellent cabin.
EnginesThe Mondeo engine options include three diesel and four petrol versions. This gives plenty of options for the owner to make sure they have an engine and economy set up which suits them. Many of the newer engines are fuel efficient and the level of C02 emissions released has been reduced. Our favorite engine was the 2.0-litre diesel as it offers good performance and great fuel economy. The 1.8-litre diesel is a bit light on power and the 2.2-litre doesn't offer enough to justify the additional cost. The petrol engines are slightly disappointing. The 1.6-lire engines should be avoided as it is not powerful enough. The 2.0-litre engine is the best choice from the petrol engines but will still leave people disappointed. The other two petrol options are too expensive to run considering the performance that they deliver.
Performance and EconomyThe Ford Mondeo is a joy to drive. It is easily the best Mondeo that Ford has ever produced and combines an excellent cabin with a smooth ride. The MK3 Mondeo already did a fine job but Ford has managed to build on the superb drive that the Mondeo delivers. Day to day life becomes easy with this car and everything is built to make sure that the owner gains maximum enjoyment from the vehicle. With all the modern equipment available driving the car is easy and the comfort is excellent. It can easily fit 5 passengers as well as luggage, there is plenty of space, including headroom, shoulder and leg space.
What it's like to DriveTo run a Ford Mondeo (07-) Estate or Hatchback the choice needs to be made between performance and efficiency. Ford has a wide range of engines that will actually cater for most people's needs. Those who wish to keep the cost of road tax to a minimum should opt for a 5-speed 1.8litre Econetic diesel engine. It keeps emissions to a minimum, and it gives an average close to 53.3mpg. For those that want more performance and don't mind about the cost the 2.0-litre petrol 240bhp Titanium X Sport will get from 0-62mph in 7.5 second but the fuel economy will drop to 36.7mpg. The best compromise is the 2.0-litre 140bhp diesel which has a 0-62mph of 9.5 seconds and still returns 53.3mpg.
Faults and RepairsOn the whole the Mondeo's are excellently built and have experienced very few common problems. The most notable of these few problems though is that some of the 2.0-litre engines do cut out unexpectedly. This can be a serious issue if the car cuts out at the wrong time, but luckily it is easy to fix with a simple software update. On the whole the car is reliable and when issues do occur they are reasonably cheap to repair.
