Colchester is a historic town situated in Essex, to the southeast of England. It has been named as one of Britain’s fastest growing towns, due to its ongoing building developments and continually rising population. This could be due to its popularity with commuters; it is only 51.2 miles from London and is accessible from the Great Easter Main Line and the A12 road.

Colchester is believed to be the oldest town in the UK, as it holds the record for the oldest Roman settlement. In fact, for a time, Colchester was the capital of Roman Britain. There are many other historic cultures that have settled in Colchester including the Saxon, Tudor and Victorian eras.

Obviously due to its history, there are many museums and landmarks that people can visit. For example, there is Colchester Castle which features an extensive exhibit of the Roman era. Other cultural aspects include the Mercury Theatre and the football club Colchester United, who are currently competing in League One.
