Renault gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to drive an electric car

Renault gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to drive an electric car Image

Renault highlighted the advantages of dropping old-fashioned fossil fuel vehicles in favour of more modern Electric Technology when they hosted a test drive in London's Regent Park on Friday.

Business decision-makers and residents in and around Camden were invited to test drive the company's Kangoo and Fluence electric cars as part of an event that was sponsored by the Energy Saving Trust.

Unfortunately, the recently released Twizy and ZOE did not make their appearance.  The test drive circuit started just outside the Garden Cafe in Regent Park and then looped around the inner ring road.

Katie Watson, the organiser of the event, is also the sustainability officer for the London Borough of Camden.  She said that she hoped the event attracted and converted a couple of electric vehicle sceptics.

She added: "This is a one off promotion event to give everybody the opportunity to discover the benefits of electrical vehicles for themselves."

Ms Watson then went on to say that many of the participants had never driven an electric car before and that she was sure they would be pleased by the experience.

She revealed that the people who attended the event also learned about the environmental advantages of earning an electric car, as well as the substantial savings on road taxes and fuel costs.

The test drives were allocated on a first come, first served basis and participants clearly had a lot of fun getting better acquainted with electric vehicles.  Whether this will convert to more sales for the company remains to be seen, but it was certainly a bold initiative.
