It is probably safe to say that many car buyers have postponed their next Car Finance deal because they were waiting for the hot new AUDI A1 Sportback. The good news is that it will be on UK showroom floors by February next year.
The motoring press published the first spy shots of the Sportback in August, but at that time technical details were still sketchy. The company has now published official details of the sporty new Audi.
The car’s overall kerb weight is, of course, slightly higher than that of the ordinary A1 because of the extra set of doors. Audi has done a great job of integrating them into the design of the Sportback though. To help people distinguish between the two cars, the Sportback will only be available in one unique colour, which the company calls Samoa Orange. The roof can be had in any one of three contrasting colours.
Despite being somewhat taller and wider, the Sportback has the same wheelbase and length as the ordinary three-door A1: 2.47 metres and 3.95 metres respectively. The extra width and height will create additional space for rear passengers.
The 270-litre boot has not been changed. The car will still be available as a four-seater at no extra cost, but the standard layout will now come with five seats.
Initially the car will be available with a choice of four turbo engines, all borrowed from the three-door. This includes the highly fuel efficient 1.6-litre TDI, which the company claims gives 74.3mpg and has emission levels of only 99g/km.
