Is it a supercar or a super-mini or both? Car loan buyers who are also VW fans will get a chance to find out this week when Audi showcases its A1 Clubsport Quattro concept car at the German Wortherseetour event. What we already know is that this is definitely the most potent A1 to date.
Under the bonnet is an upgraded version of the 5-cylinder 2.5-litre turbo engine we have already seen in the RS3 Sportback and the TT-RS. Audi has boosted power and torque to a massive 496 break horse power and 660Nm by adding an intercooler, a bigger turbo and wider exhaust. All this brute power is made available to the driver through a six-speed manual gearbox and Quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Although we have seen both of these in the TT-RS, the overall effect in the smaller A1 will be remarkable.
For many car loan buyers performance is the number one criteria when buying a car. These people will not be disappointed by the A1. With an acceleration figure of 3.7 seconds for the 0-62mph sprint and a top speed of 155 miles per hour it is certainly not slow. After 10.9 seconds, when many other cars have not even reached the 62mph mark, this baby will already be cruising at 124 miles an hour.
The styling of the A1 will also please most performance fans. The wheels are large 19-inch alloy monsters utilising an innovative turbine design. To make sure you can safely stop after using all that power, the car uses carbon ceramic brake discs in the front and steel discs at the rear.
