New Audi Sportscar Not Available on Car Finance

Dec 21 2010 A new Audi prototype sportscar, the R18, has been unveiled by Audi this month. The car features a completely original 3.7 litre, V6 TDI engine as well as a closed cockpit, giving the Audi Sports team their first chance to experience racing with a roof. Speaking about the design of the new car, Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Motorsport said “After racing an ‘open’ Audi sportscar since 2000, it was a renewed experience for me to again drive a sportscar with a roof. Audi has done a great job with the design – the front certainly looks very aggressive – I’m sure we have a contender for race honours.

Although the Audi R18 won’t be available to the general public, or with car credit, it will most probably be making its debut in the six hour Spa-Francorchamps race that takes place in Belgium on 8th May. It will then go on to compete in the 2011 Le Mans 24 hour endurance race. Should the Audi R18 win in the Le Mans race, it will be driver Allan McNish’s third victory and a tenth win for Audi themselves.

Despite not going into general production, the designers of the Audi R18 were careful to adhere to strict Le Mans rules when it comes to keeping pollution of the environment to a minimum. Emissions from the R18 have been consciously kept low by Audi with the incorporation of the 3.7 litre V6 TDI engine, meaning even Le Mans sportscars can give ordinary consumers a run for their money.
