If you are adamant that your next Car Finance deal will be for a “green” car, here is good news: the United Kingdom could soon become one huge Low Emission Zone, according to at least one transport guru.
A month after stricter tailpipe standards were introduced by London’s Low Emission Zone, the head of Green Urban Technologies, Nigel Standley, expressed the belief that it was only a matter of time before other UK cities would also adopt the idea.
Standley said “Poor air quality shortens the lives of 200,000 UK citizens and costs society up to £20 billion each year. It’s an issue we need to take seriously, and not just in our capital city.”
He has solid ground for his claims: last November a report by the Environmental Audit Committee showed clearly that the UK was lagging behind when it comes to European air quality standards. According to a second report, issued by the Government, 40 of the 43 assessment zones in the UK failed to meet EU targets.
Standley added that Glasgow, Sussex, Leeds, York and Liverpool have already taken tentative steps in the right direction.
He predicted that these zones would soon be widespread and recommended that the transport sector should spearhead the move rather than play catch-up.
Green Urban Technologies manufacture diesel particulate filters that are suitable for use in older “dirty” cars. The company claims these filters can reduce particulate output by 95%, turning older vehicles into LEZ compliant cars overnight.
