It’s not just a new badge on an old car – the BMW 4-series is in fact a brand new five-door hatch that is going to stun many car credit buyers.
The car is based on the new 3-series saloon and Touring models that will be released in 2012. The motoring press has already published the first spy shots and from these it is clear that the new model is going to be a hit with BMW fans.
So different is the car from the 3-series, that BMW has decided not to give it a 3-series GT badge, but rather launch a new model that will sit squarely between the 3-series and the 5-series.
The car will follow the example of the bigger 5-series GT in offering drivers much more than the model on which it was originally based. The seating position at the rear has been raised and owners will also be able to choose from a three-seat or two-seat option in the back. The tailgate will be a two-stage version that can either open at the back like a normal saloon car or act like a hatchback.
At the front the 4-series will lean heavily towards the 5-series. There is a distinctive, wide kidney grille and the headlights are slimmer than on the 3-series. At the back the swooping roofline gives the car a decidedly sporty look, although headroom will still be more than ample.
Interested car credit buyers can choose from a range of four and six-cylinder engines and even a three-cylinder petrol motor boasting 75 miles per gallon and CO2 emissions of less than 100gm/km.
