Car manufacturer BMW has launched its latest offering into the market, in the guise of the 5 Series Gran Turismo.
The new model includes what BMW believe is a major innovation, with a two-piece tailgate allowing drivers the option of two different ways to open the rear of the vehicle, depending on what needs to be put into it.
"The 5 Series Gran Turismo, a car which combines an understated coupe-like silhouette to the luxurious interior of a BMW 7 Series, while at the same time giving the functionality of a BMW 5 Series Touring or X5," the company said in a statement.
It is hoped the new model will help boost sales of BMWs in the UK as the recession has caused more people to downgrade to smaller and cheaper cars.
It could also boost the number of old BMWs coming into the used car market as more people choose to replace their older versions with the Gran Turismo.
Last month, BMW backed the government's decision to introduce a scrappage scheme in the UK in an effort to boost the sales of new cars.
The scrappage scheme came into force last week and BMW is among the firms currently taking part in the initiative.
