MINI E Unplugged
Oct 19 2009Driving a MINI E which is the electric version of the MINI will be a lifetime experience for those who will be participating in the MINI E trials. For one thing once you turn the MINI E on there is no sound from the engine. You press the accelerator and it takes off. As there are no gears and no clutch and no sound you remain focused on the steering and the accelerator. Take your foot off the accelerator and the car slows down immediately. Touch the brake and it will come to a dead halt in seconds. When you release the accelerator a dynamo starts charging the battery and the car does not slow down gradually like a normal car. You have to get used to driving an electric car or rather mastering the art of driving a MINI E. Perhaps the worst thing is that pedestrians, motorists and cyclist cannot hear you approaching as there is no sound emitting from the car.
BMW engineers may decide to install an external sound system to make people aware of the car´s approach. But a car that is nippy, rechargeable and clean requires serious consideration. At around three hundred pounds a month in car financing the MINI E will be very gettable. The car financing can be worked out once it comes into production.
