Chevrolet Tests Car of Tomorrow in Space

In a world where the car loan has become part of our daily lives and where motoring costs are seemingly spiralling out of control, it sometimes pays to take stock and realise what we are paying for.

In a recent article we reported that according to CAP figures the average car engine has become smaller, faster, lighter on fuel and has lower CO2 emissions than its counterpart of a few short years ago.

This can all be traced back to continued research by the major motor manufacturers.  The competition in this area is fierce and a car maker that cannot keep up with new technology will soon be history in today’s market.

GM is of course determined to regain their position as number one car producer in the world and they know that this can only be achieved with vehicles that use ground-breaking technology.

This explains the motive behind the company’s recent decision to launch a robot into space (on board the space ship Endeavor) that will research the most likely technology to be used in the cars of tomorrow.

Called Robonaut 2, the robot was developed in partnership with NASA to help astronauts on the International Space station with day-to-day tasks.  It features new vision and sensor technologies that will be used to build safer cars in future.

Robonaut 2 has highly sophisticated sensors used in its interaction with the space station.  These sensors are now being tested to see how they could be incorporated into the company’s future cars.
