As most car loan buyers will remember: things used to be much simpler a few years ago. Saloon cars were saloon cars. Sports cars were much lower and clearly sporty looking and MPVs were tall, with truncated noses. SUVs looked like a cross between a 4x4 and a hatchback.
Nowadays it is no longer possible to make this distinction. There is a whole range of “hybrid” cars that do not really fit into any single category. An example of this is the new Citroen DS4.
Citroen itself describes the DS4 as a crossbreed. The sales literature also says the car will “dominate” yet has a “mischievous” look. The reality is a 4-door coupe with a slanting tail and a driving position that feels very similar to that of an MPV. Crossbreeding seems to work well in the animal kingdom – and Citroen has just proved it can work with cars as well.
The DS4 is of course the second in a series of three DS models. The DS3 hatchback with its racy looks has proved to be popular with some car loan buyers. The DS5 has only recently been launched at the Shanghai Motor Show and is a very good-looking car.
The DS4 was actually derived from the somewhat bland C4, which was only released a short time ago. The DS4 is likely to completely outshine the C4 in virtually every respect.
With prices ranging from £18,500 to £24,000 and trim options to match, the DS4 is certainly a worthy addition to the Citroen range. It is a beautiful car and a real pleasure to drive.
