Citroen has big Plans for DS5

Citroen bosses have confirmed that they plan to grow the luxury DS brand with dedicated dealerships, new models and exclusive membership clubs.  The new models include three cars that will be aimed solely at the Chinese market as well as new DS3 variants.

China is currently the company’s second biggest market and it will play a pivotal role in the success of the DS brand.  The luxury car market in that country is booming and European cars are held in high esteem by Chinese car buyers.

One of the models that is likely to be marketed in China is the Metropolis concept, which made its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show last year.  It was developed and styled by the Shanghai studio of the PSA Group and could well carry a DS9 badge when it hits showrooms.

At 5.3 metres the car is longer than an Audi A8 LWB.  It utilises the same platform as the C6 executive saloon.

The Metropolis is driven by a two-litre V6 petrol engine combined with an electric motor.  Total power output is 460 bhp and nobody can complain about the C02 emission figures – at only 70g/km it is well below that of most competitors.  The car is an all-wheel drive utilising a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

If you are a U.K. Citroen supporter with a new car loan in the pipeline, do not despair: Citroen plans new DS variants for the UK market as well.  First in line will be the DS5, which will be launched early in 2012.

The popular DS3 will get special editions and an expanded range of body styles, and a cabriolet is reportedly also on the cards.
