Citroen is giving Audi and BMW a run for their money with its new DS4 family car. When the vehicle becomes available later this year, it will no doubt make Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series car loan buyers think twice.
The DS4 has a distinctive, sporty look. With its raised ride height and sleek lines it bears a certain resemblance to the Mercedes CLS. In fact, Jean-Pierre Ploué, the man in charge of design at PSA, is a huge fan of the CLS. The sculptured wheel arches and low roofline of the car form a striking contrast against the vehicle's high driving position.
The car is based on the latest C4, although the DS4 is 6cm shorter and 4cm higher. While the rear doors can in no way be described as huge, access to the back will be more than acceptable to most car loan buyers. The boot size is 370 litres - only marginally less than that of a Nissan Qashqai.
The dashboard has been borrowed from the C4. Exclusive finishes and materials however ensure that the cabin has a unique, upmarket feel to it. The DS logo now appears on all the door handles and centre seat squabs are comfortable, yet classy in appearance. Citroen is still working on customisation options.
Car loan buyers have six engines to choose from - three diesels and three petrol engines. The diesels range from a 110bhp 1.6-litre e-HDi to a 160bhp 2.0 HDi. The 3 petrol engines start with a 120bph model and the top of the range is a 200bhp powerhouse.
