FIAT has released the first official pictures of its brand new 500L MPV ahead of the Geneva Motor Show a month from now.
For those readers who might not be aware of this: the “L” in 500L stands for “Large” – and the new car is, in fact, a bigger (and more practical) car than the Fiat 500. The “L” will come in the place of the Multipla and compete directly with the NISSAN Note and MINI Countryman.
Auto Express published the first spy shots of the new car towards the end of 2011. As they predicted at the time, the 500L has a simple upper grille with a single-bar and a 500-style nose with oversized lights and lower spotlamps.
Technical details are sketchy at this stage, but Fiat says that motorists will have a choice of two petrol engines – a 1.4-litre turbo and a 2-cylinder Twin-Air – and a 1.3-litre “Multi-Jet” diesel machine.
The 500L is based on a Panda platform that has been modified slightly. It will, in all likelihood, be offered with a choice of seven or five seats. The standard model will have front-wheel drive, but a 4x4 model will also be available.
The new Fiat will start appearing on showroom floors towards the end of 2012. The entry level model will cost in the region of £13,000. The company will most likely reveal more details at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
The 500L might not be the least expensive car on the market, but armed with a cheap car loan most UK car buyers should be able to af FORD one of these upmarket new Fiats.
