Ford's next generation Transit will debut at this week's Birmingham CV Show before starting to appear on UK showroom floors later in the year.
The new design signifies another step towards Ford’s goal to invigorate its whole commercial model line-up within the next two years.
The Director of CV Sales, Marketing and Service for Ford of Europe, Jesus Alonso, said: “The Transit Custom is a completely new kind of one-tonne vehicle.”
He added that the new Transit was a modern, stylish vehicle that a motorist can take pride in having in his or her driveway – yet it had lost nothing of the workhorse abilities that have become a trademark of the van.
From day one the new Transit Custom will be available with either a long wheelbase (total length 5.34m) or a short wheelbase (total length 4.97m).
The new Transit will feature the most recent Ford passenger car technology, such as lane keeping alter, emergency assistance, in-car connectivity system with voice activation, driver alert and a rear-view camera.
Ford's engines have been improved and the new range consists of a 2.2-litre TDCi diesel engine, which is available in 153bhpd, 123bhp and 98bhp versions. All Euro V vehicles now come with Auto-Start-Stop – improving CO2 emissions to 174g/km CO2 and fuel consumption to 42.8mpg in the case of the Transit.
Ford will be introducing higher payload and bigger Transits later in the year. These models will be sold on an international basis, including in the United States, and they will also offer a rear-wheel-drive option.
