Ford's Fiesta has scooped a major prize as it continues to be a highly successful car for manufacturer Ford.
The Fiesta has been named What Diesel? Magazine's Car of the Year for 2009, after beating off competition from 26 contenders, having sold over 36,000 units since launching in September last year.
"The Fiesta is simply the best small diesel car available on the market right now and judging by the sales figures, the UK public agrees. It feels solid, well-built and is great to drive," said Ian Robertson, editor of What Diesel magazine.
Nigel Sharp, managing director, FORD of Britain, added: "It's great to have an independent endorsement such as this - and we're delighted with the market's response. There's no doubt new Fiesta is already a great success."
The award could increase interest in Fiestas among people looking for used cars.
This is the latest success for the Fiesta, after JATO Dynamics revealed it has become Europe's best-selling car.
As more people look to downsize during the recession, the Fiesta has picked up plenty of new admirers and in March knocked the VOLKSWAGEN Golf off top spot in the JATO survey for the first time in a year.
