Motor manufacturer FORD is expecting to achieve strong sales success this month thanks to buyer demand for both new and existing models.

It is anticipated that March, the months of the number plate change, will see around 425,000 vehicles sold to Car Finance customers in the UK.

Ford models are expected to account for a large chunk of this, with the carmaker delivering the most '08 plated vehicles this month.

The new Focus, which went on sale last month, will be a major driver in Ford's sales, while the current Fiesta will continue to be a top selling model.

And later this year low emission car will be made exempt from the London congestion charge and Ford believes this will create strong demand for its greener vehicles.

The Focus ECOnetic, which has already attracted strong interest from buyers, should prove popular, as should its 27 other models which fall into the low emissions category.

Meanwhile it is reported that Ford will formally take over the Romanian carmaker Automobile Craiova by the end of March.
