Car loan buyers who are Ford fans will like the following bit of news: a new Ford Focus ST will arrive on UK showroom floors early next year. The car is expected to be faster, more powerful and at the same time more fuel efficient than its predecessor.
The new power source that will replace the old 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine currently found in the Ford RS and Focus ST models is a 4-cylinder 2-litre turbo petrol engine. According to Ford this will make the car markedly cheaper to run.
The new car will enable Ford to better compete with rivals such as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Volkswagen Golf GTI and Renault Megane Renaultsport 250 – all of which are driven by 2-litre turbo petrol engines.
The new engine is expected to deliver in excess of 240bhp, which will enable it to accelerate from 0 – 60mph in less than seven seconds. The claimed top speed will be more than 140 miles per hour.
At the moment Ford engineers are still working on the steering, ride quality, handling and interior of the car to make it top notch. Car loan buyers who own one of the outgoing models will understand that beating the standards set by current models will not be easy.
Ford Chief Engineer Matthias Tonn, said: “We’re fine-tuning, testing, and fine tuning again many of the small but critical details to make sure it is worthy of the ST badge.”
Although Ford has made no announcement in this regard, the price of the new ST is expected to be between £20,000 and £25,000.
