Interested UK car finance buyers have been able to view the Ford Focus estate in showrooms across the country since May and 2,000 orders have already been received by the company. The official launch of the car, however, only took place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show last weekend.
The launch coincided with Ford’s centennial celebrations in the UK. The carmaker used the Goodwood Festival to show off the new Estate, as well as the new Ford Mondeo, former Ford sport cars, and naturally the Model T - which was first produced in the UK in 1911.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Moving Motor Show has turned into the largest motoring garden party on earth. It is an unrivalled mix of cars, motor sport icons and stars. It is estimated that about 170,000 people attended the event this year.
The new estate is based on the five-door hatchback launched at the beginning of 2011. The old estate accounted for about 13% of all Focus sales for the past 12 years. Ford predicts that the new model will be even more popular and that it will eventually account for 18% of Ford Focus sales.
Prices start at around £17,100, which means the car is certainly not a cheapie. It comes with additional equipment worth more than £1,000 compared to the old model – certainly good news in the current economic climate. This includes voice control, Bluetooth, DAB radio, USB connection, aluminium roof rails, an alarm system and torque vectoring control for the car’s front-wheel drive system.
