The motoring press recently spotted Ford’s new super mini being tested at high speeds at the Nurburgring. The fiery new Ford sports a wild-looking body kit that could be the prelude to a 200bhp turbo that is in the pipeline.
The hottest ever Fiesta will undoubtedly have to be good to compete in an already crowded hot hatch category, but journalists are convinced it will sell like hotcakes. The flagship ST has an eye-catching design and its 1.6-litre turbo engine will no doubt get many car finance buyers very excited.
The grille of the new hatch looks very similar to that of its bigger brother, the Focus ST. It is huge, it is trapezoidal and it gives the car a very distinctive look.
At the back the Fiesta has quite a dramatic roof spoiler, two oversized exhaust pipes (one on either side) and a bold black plastic diffuser.
Add side skirts, wide wheel arches, bright colours and an array of ST badges and you have a car that will set many young car finance buyers’ hearts on fire. The huge grille is not for decorative purposes only either – it enhances air flow to the punchy 1.6 litre engine. With competitors like the Vauxhall Corsa VXR that pushes out close to 200bhp, Ford had no option but to raise the stakes with the new Fiesta.
The Fiesta’s predecessor could only deliver 150 bhp. The latest one will almost certainly increase that to at least 200 bhp. Although Ford has not published performance figures yet, we expect a top speed of well over 140mpg and 0-60 mph acceleration of about 6.5 seconds.
