FORD achieved record sales last month as a result of an "exciting new model range".
During the changeover to the new '08 plate, the firm saw over 83,600 registrations take place, marking a new record since the introduction of bi-annual registration plate changes.
Car Finance customers were potentially among the drivers who turned their attentions to the new Focus, C-MAX and Mondeo in March.
Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: "Last month was the first true test of the public's response to the new Ford range.
"A record sales month is the loud and clear answer I wanted to hear - and we still have the new Ford Kuga crossover, Ford Fiesta and Ka to come."
The month also saw an increase of six per cent in the number of vehicles being delivered to private customers compared with last year's figures.
Recently, EurotaxGlass's claimed that new Ford Focus is set to retain £500 more in residual value than its predecessor.
