UK Ford Mondeo Gets new Engines

May 23 2011 UK Ford Mondeo Gets new Engines Image

In good news for many UK car loan buyers, Ford has announced that their flagship Mondeo range will get a new range of 1.6 litre, 2.0 litre and 2.2 litre engines.  Emissions levels of these engines will be as much as 20% lower than their predecessors.

Fleet Director at Ford of Britain, Kevin Griffin says that the introduction of a new diesel engine, as well as the Ford auto-start-stop system will go a long way to addressing customer demands for more refinement, comfort, performance and fuel economy.

He continued: “The Ford Mondeo's power train line-up reflects the 1.6 engines' all-round capability, while its 2.0 range offers unprecedented performance.”

Both the 1.6 EcoBoost and 1.6 TDCi are now fitted with Auto-Start-Stop as standard equipment.  The diesel’s CO2 emission levels are only 114 gram per kilometre and its fuel consumption of 65.7 miles per gallon (for both the estate and 5-door version) makes it the most fuel efficient Ford ever.

For the 2-litre diesel engine delivering 140 bhp emission levels were reduced by 12% (25 grams per kilometre).  Technologies such as lower suspension, an aero kit, active grill shutter, smart regenerative charging and Eco Mode driver feedback all help to make the car faster, yet more economical and with lower CO2 emissions.

The way the Auto-Start-Stop system works is that it picks up when the driver is about to drive off, e.g. when he steps on the clutch pedal.  The car is then prepared for takeoff so it will start virtually immediately.  The process is nearly unperceivable and happens before the driver even selects a gear.
