First Ever Pay as You Go Car Charging System in UK

Feb 9 2012 First Ever Pay as You Go Car Charging System in UK Image

For the first time ever a Pay as You Go car charging scheme is operational in the North East of the UK.

The scheme is managed by Charge Your Car.  It has been designed with motorists in mind, to make it more convenient and easier for them to recharge electric cars at a public recharging point.  It will also give visiting drivers the opportunity to charge their cars without signing up for any membership scheme.

Drivers of electric vehicles will be able to pay using an automated text messaging service, similar to the system that is currently used in many car parks.  A number of the most popular quick charging and standard charging posts in the North East take part in the trial, which will last until April.

Josey Wardle, the Project Manager of Charge your Car, says that the Pay as you Go technology brings the next stage in EV charging ever closer.  He added “By undertaking this trial, the North East is leading the way in developing an all inclusive system, as it will help us to better understand how this technology can work.”

The Charge Your Car project in the North East was launched two years ago after the government named North East England as one of the first three regions to become part of the government funded “Plugged-in-Place” programme.

This is one more reason to use your next auto loan to buy an electric vehicle if you live in the North East.
