'Banks could spread new charges more evenly'
'Banks could spread new charges more evenly'
May 9 2008
Banks should spread any newly-implemented charges across their customer base, a consumers' group has said.
The Consumer Action Group said new fees could possibly emerge following a judgement allowing the Office of Fair Trading to investigate whether overdraft charges are excessive.
However, founder of the group Marc Gander said any new fees "will be borne more equally throughout the population".
The news could prove useful knowledge for people who have a car loan and are keeping an eye on their personal finances.
Mr Gander said: "I'm quite sure that there will be new charges, but there's never been free banking anyway."
Drivers making regular payments on a car loan could be interested in Mr Gander's comments, which suggested banks should avoid charging "vulnerable" people.
The BBC has estimated that last year banks refunded about £784 million to nearly 378,000 customers, including some Car Finance customers.
