Beware of dealer scams

Mar 22 2010
We know the benefits of setting the right budget in our minds before venturing out to buy or sell a car – does not matter whether it is a new or a used one. This discipline will ensure that you only look at what you can afford and do not exceed the brief.

When you go to buy a new or used car or even sell one through a dealer, unless you are alert and conversant with some of the common tricks used by dealers to rip you, there is every possibility that you will come out of the deal poorer by some money.

These scams are not of a very sophisticated nature but very simple traps that are employed by dealers to make you splurge more than you have planned for. Though they would always profess to work in your interest, we should know that they have a business to run and will do everything possible to make you spend more.

One of the most common things they would entice you to go for is the VIN etching service. Though this is a very good idea for theft deterrence, if the dealer charges a premium for this service, you know that he is extracting more money from you under this garb.
