Despite their best efforts to convince you that they have your best interests at heart, you need to be aware that dealers are in the business driven purely by commercial instincts and will do their best to make you pay more than you have to.
Some of the common tricks they deploy are as under:
a) If any dealer talks about helping you with the car loan repayment, do not take it at face value as you then become indebted to the dealer and your credit score will take a hit. That commitment by itself from the dealer should not be a reason for you to buy the vehicle from him.
b) Do not get into discussions on the car loan payments while ignoring the basic cost price of the vehicle in question. You must try to get this price to as low as possible before starting to discuss anything on the loan itself.
c) Beware of dealer prep costs and charges. You must equip yourself before hand with information on the standard prices and not get taken in by dealer sales pitch.
d) Do not feel pressurized into buying any extended warranty scheme by the dealer as he would have his own commission interest in making you purchase it.
