The popular insurance website Confused.com recently conducted a study to find the most crash-prone cars on British roads – and the results might come as a surprise to many car finance buyers.
The website admits that their research could not be described as a scientific poll. It was carried out among the users of the website and merely reflects the experience of these users in terms of claims. On the basis of this information Confused.com went ahead to draw up a list of the top ten “most dangerous cars.”
The number one position, according to the website, is taken up by the Honda FV-R. Nearly 20% of drivers who own one of these cars made an insurance claim at some stage. In second place is the Volvo XC90 (15.9%), closely followed by the Lexus RX (15.5%).
Another Honda, the CR-V, came fourth. The Hyundai Santa Fe followed close behind, with the Toyota Rav4, Mazda 3 and Volkswagen Touran in hot pursuit.
When asked to comment on the findings of the poll, Confused.com’s Mr Kloet replied that “It could be that drivers of this model happen to be more careless or reckless than other motorists.”
The website also published a list of the safest cars. In number one position is the Mazda 2 TS TD, followed by the Nissan Skyline. In third position is the Ford Focus RS and closely behind it, in fourth position, is the Fiat Cinquecento.
Mr Kloet is, of course, correct: the website’s findings do not prove which cars are the safest or most dangerous. It could simply be that some cars inspire you to become reckless.
