A motoring group has revealed how drivers could save money on fuel bills through car sharing, which could appeal to car loan customers looking to cut regular motoring costs.
The Royal Automobile Club Foundation (RACF) said drivers should consider giving or taking lifts while heading to work, which could apply to some car loan customers who have a regular commute.
Officials at the organisation quoted government figures which say around one per cent of UK motorists have taken part in an official car sharing scheme.
RACF deputy director Sheila Rainger said: "In light of current high fuel prices, motorists should not overlook the potential benefits of car sharing, which can reduce the cost of their journeys by up to three quarters."
A car sharing system of four people would ensure those involved get the maximum financial benefit, the RACF said.
Drivers have recently been given eco-driving tips from the EU Commission, which released a YouTube video featuring lower-emission driving techniques.
