What is better – Buying or Leasing?

Apr 20 2010
The decision to buy a car is not an easy one and you look around for options like renting, leasing or buying a used car. A lot of course depends on the finance you can muster up and as long as you have a fair assessment of your financial capacity, you should be able to arrive at a decision that you will not regret later on.
However, one point of confusion would always remain- that is to buy a car or lease one. There are advantages and disadvantages to both and you will have to compare their impact on your finances to see what would suit you the best. There is no outright solution or answer and it is purely a function of an individual’s financial capacity which should help him take the decision. Just like there is no general favourite colour and it is an individualistic choice, the decision to buy or lease is also a personal one.
One possible pointer to help you decide is whether you are looking for cheap monthly repayments, in which case, the leasing option would suit you the best. When you lease the car, you are only covering for the depreciation and the finance component unlike a purchase through the car loan.
