Why borrowers do not seek out foreclosure prevention assistance

Apr 20 2010
The recession has made life very difficult for those who had taken loans. They are now finding it difficult to repay those loans and are seeking help in the form of modifying the loan and seeking other options to prevent the grim scenario of a foreclosure. While there are options to assist such beleaguered borrowers and enable them to keep their prized homes, the current situation and the suddenness with which things have changed are making many borrowers skeptical and apprehensive about going in for such options.
Consumer credit advising service agencies are reporting that borrowers do need help desperately but are too cagey about taking it as they feel intimidated by the entire procedure. Fear has a strange way of clamming up people, but it is important for borrowers to overcome these apprehensions so that they can take positive steps to prevent foreclosure and hold on to their houses.
The primary reason is a sense of shame and helplessness. Many of the borrowers are quite embarrassed to let somebody know that they are in serious financial difficulty and require help. They should get over this feeling of hopelessness and look ahead as losing a job or getting into such difficulty is not something very unusual in today’s rather uncertain times. They must understand they are not the only ones going through such difficulties.
