Car finance news: £100m investment for greener motoring

Secured Car Loans customers could be set to benefit from a £100million government initiative to help make motoring greener across the UK.

Transport secretary Geoff Hoon made the announcement, inviting car manufacturers to bid for the opportunity to participate in the development of electric and other ultra-low emission vehicles.

The government will also invest in around 100 electric cars, to be provided for use by Car Finance customers across various towns and cities in an attempt to gain feedback on the vehicles' practicality.

Mr Hoon said that the move was part of an attempt to "break down the barriers" that could inhibit a switch to more environmentally friendly motoring.

He added that £20million would be made available for research and development towards making green cars more affordable

Car loans customers could save significant amounts on motoring costs by purchasing an electric car, with no road tax to be charged for zero-emission vehicles and free parking in some London boroughs also offered. ADNFCR-1366-ID-18849745-ADNFCR
