Car loans customers could save on costs

Unsecured Car Loans customers could be set to ditch their current new and used cars in favour of more fuel efficient models, according to research.

In a survey carried out by the AA earlier this summer, more than 60 per cent of UK drivers said they would consider buying a more economical vehicle as the price of fuel continued to rise.

But according to an expert at the British School of Motoring (BSM), Car Finance customers can save on fuel and help reduce CO2 emissions simply by using straightforward driving techniques.

Robin Cummins, road safety consultant at the organisation, said that by being more aware of the road ahead and planning rather than "jumping on the foot break instantly" drivers across the UK could cut fuel costs by as much as £6 billion.

Driving at lower speeds and in the highest gear possible and not accelerating too much could also save money and help reduce the effect on the environment, he added.

The advice follows after transport secretary Geoff Hoon announced a £100 million government initiative to help make greener cars more accessible and practical for UK drivers.
