Suggestions that a car scrappage scheme could be introduced in the UK have met with approval from a Car Loans provider.
The idea that older cars being scrapped should entitle the owner to a government voucher for a £2,000 discount on a new or nearly-new model has been presented to business secretary Lord Mandelson.
According to the AA, such a scheme could provide a number of benefits, including helping the flailing motor industry to get back on its feet as well as reducing CO2 emissions.
Mark Huggins, director of AA Personal Loans, said: "I believe it would be a popular move and would allow many families to buy their first brand new car."
He added: "A scrappage scheme would also help consumers obtain loans to purchase new cars and it would make a huge difference when it comes to choosing a new or nearly-new car."
Car loans customers could benefit from the move, having to take out less finance to purchase a model.
According to the Independent, attendees at a European commission summit will today discuss ways to bolster the motor industry, with the scrappage scheme one of the items on the agenda.
