Classic car market still thriving
Nov 13 2008Despite increasingly tough times for the motor industry, the classic used car market is thriving.
Secured Car Loans customers are turning towards older models as they offer greater practicality as well as exemption from road tax for those built before 1973.
More than 1,000 vehicles are expected at Birmingham's Classic Motor Show this weekend, and Simon Charlesworth, editor of the classic website www.dep-o.co.uk, said more and more people are interested in the cars because of the recession.
"They are far simpler and owners can maintain and repair them themselves; saving money on expensive main-dealer labour rates and buying parts which are far more affordable," he claimed.
Mr Charlesworth added that used car buyers could also see gains on their investment, with the values of classic vehicles appreciating if they are well looked after.
Earlier this week, car loans customers were warned that skipping services and repair work on their vehicles will cost them more in the long term, with the car losing value and becoming more likely to require expensive repairs in the future.
