Honda commits to European diesel plans

Apr 27 2009

Car manufacturer HONDA has rejected suggestions that it is not planning to introduce new clean diesel technology to Europe.

Reports had suggested the manufacturer was considering not entering the European diesel market with any new projects, but the firm has scotched those rumours by reaffirming its commitment to the sector.

"Honda has just celebrated the construction of a new engine plant to supply cylinder blocks and casting parts for its 2.2-litre diesel engines in European models," the company said in a statement.

Environmentally-friendly diesel vehicles are becoming an increasingly popular option for motorists as they can often provide a more eco-friendly and fuel-efficient drive than their petrol-powered counterparts.

Honda's commitment to the European diesel sector will be welcome news for those looking for a used car, as the move could mean more people are willing to trade-in their old Hondas for newer models.

Last week, Ford's Fiesta was named What Diesel? Magazine's Car of the Year for 2009, having sold over 36,000 units since launching in September last year.
