With the Geneva Motor Show drawing closer, many UK car buyers are no doubt putting their next car finance deal on hold to see what auto manufacturers have in the pipeline.
Honda, for one, has big plans for Geneva and from what we have heard the Japanese car manufacturer’s stand will be one of the most interesting at the show.
In the first place Honda will reveal more information about its brand new Earth Dreams Technology that has been developed to maximise both performance and fuel economy. This is Honda’s answer to Mazda’s Skyactive technology.
The first engine developed under this new strategy will be a 1.6-litre diesel. After that a whole range of new engines will follow over the course of the next three years. The 1,596cc engine develops 120PS and its maximum torque of 300Nm is achieved at only 2,000rpm.
Another highlight at the Honda stand will no doubt be the NSX Concept hybrid sports car. We saw it the first time in Detroit, where it carried the Acura brand badge – a name that is not in use in Europe. The NSX will come with a whole array of new technologies, including a mid-mounted V6 engine and an all-wheel drive SH-AWD hybrid system.
Another first for European buyers will be a wholly electric two-seater roadster that uses a 10kWh lithium ion battery producing 79bhp. This fun car will have a range of around 100 miles and its acceleration figure of five seconds for the 0-60mph sprint is remarkable for a hybrid vehicle.
