Honda sees strong sales in SUV market

Car manufacturer HONDA has announced its latest SUV is selling well despite the global recession hitting sales of larger vehicles.

The company has announced its CR-V version has topped the SUV sales in the UK this year, up 48 per cent compared to its nearest rival, as the company demonstrates that large four-by-fours can be sold in the current economic climate.

"This year, 6,531 units of the well-equipped CR-V have been sold, boosted by a range of robust finance packages and a complimentary redundancy payment protection plan that provides added security for customers," the marque said.

Honda's success in selling so many SUVs could provide good news for the used car market by enabling more large cars to filter through into the sector.

The recession has hit car manufacturers heavily across the world over recent months as more people choose to downgrade their cars to smaller, more economical versions.

Many motorists are also keen to buy smaller cars because they are more environmentally-friendly than their larger competitors.
