There is good news for those of you who have already started hunting for a cheap car loan to buy the long awaited new Honda Civic: the car will be launched at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Before the launch the Japanese car manufacturer released more information about the newcomer and we now know that the VW Golf and Ford Focus rival will be more refined and quieter than its predecessor – thanks to Honda calling in the help of ex-F1 engineers.
The key to the car’s success, says Honda, will be its slippery shape – something that took the F1 engineers quite some time to perfect. This will provide the new Civic with an exceptionally low drag coefficient, lower fuel consumption, excellent high speed stability as well as making it extraordinarily quiet.
During the design phase engineers also spent a lot of time in the company’s echo-free chamber at its Swindon plant. This helped them to redesign the roof lining – which reduced cabin noise even further.
Kazuo Sunaoshi, the chassis development leader of the team, says that their biggest challenge was to reduce vibration and noise levels to a level matching that of their major European competitors. He is confident they achieved this goal.
He continued “We did not improve the noise and refinement of the new Civic through just one technique. It was the accumulation of lots of little details.”
The Honda test team also spent a lot of time on the UK’s bumpy tarmac roads to further improve the drive comfort of the new model.
The Civic will arrive on showroom floors in January 2012.
