Jaguar will soon have an answer to the Audi A6 Avant. The car will be called the XF Sportbrake and testing on the new model has recently started near Jaguar’s plant in Coventry in the UK. The motoring press has indeed already published the first spy shots of the new XF estate.
The car will finally give Jaguar a rival to the BMW 5-series Touring, Audi A6 Avant and the Mercedes E-Class Estate. Do not expect to be able to sign up for a car loan on one of these cars before the end of next year though. You will probably get a glimpse of the new model at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Although the prototype was heavily disguised, the rear end looks very sleek and stylish and the C-pillar is reminiscent of the coupe – giving the car a dramatic appeal. The car has the same rear LED lights as we have seen on the XF saloon.
The rest of the car does not differ much from the standard XF, except that in the rear you will have the standard split/fold rear seats you normally find in estate cars. There might even be a dual-height boot floor.
As can be deduced from the name, the XF was not designed to be a large estate vehicle such as the Mercedes E-Class Estate, with its cavernous 1,950 litres of boot space when the rear seats are folded. It will probably have similar luggage space to the Audi A6 Avant (1,680 litres with rear seats folded) or the Audi A6 Avant (1,680 litres).
