Fifty years after the Jaguar E-Type had motoring enthusiasts around the world talking, its successor has been released. Jaguar has launched its most important car of the decade: a beautiful two-seater rival for the Porsche Cayman that blends state of the art hybrid technology with the brand’s well known foundations of performance and beauty.
It is called the C-X16 for a good reason: this is the 16th car designed by Director Ian Callum and his team. Jaguar has confirmed that the new model will definitely proceed to the production phase.
According to industry sources the C-X16 will start appearing on UK showroom floors in both coupe and roadster form within the next 12 months, so if you missed the original E-Type you had better start talking to your bank manager about an affordable auto loan before long.
The car will debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, but Jaguar showed it to the motoring press in their design studios a week ago.
The car’s stunning design needs no further explanation, but what lies beneath the bonnet warrants further discussion. This is a supercharged three-litre V6 delivering 450Nm of torque and 375 bhp. It is a modified version of the five-litre V8 we saw earlier in the XKR, XFR and XJ Supersports, featuring state-of-the-art direct injection technology and a dual-vortex supercharger for better fuel consumption and more precise boost control.
An electric motor supplements the petrol engine. It produces 95bhp and 235Nm of torque.
