A dream of many UK car finance buyers has just come true. Fifty years after the launch of the original E-type Jaguar a Swiss company has announced that they are going to re-introduce this iconic brand on a limited scale. The new E-type will be based on the XKR.
While the guys over at Jaguar are probably flattered by the news, they will not be involved in the production of the new car. The company that will build the Growler E-type is the Swiss Classic Factory. They will work on Swedish designs.
The car will be powered by the same 5 litre V8 engine as the XKR. The engine has been given a makeover, however, and will now produce 592bhp instead of the normal 503 bhp.
The company will use carbon fibre in the chassis of the new E-type, making it 200kg lighter than the XKR. At 1 550kg it is still no lightweight though. The power gain and the weight reduction will significantly improve the car's performance and it is expected that the new E-type will be able to propel UK car finance buyers from 0-62 miles per hour in four seconds!
The company is still working on the interior design of the new car, but they told journalists that it will be every bit as striking as the exterior. Although a lot of the mechanicals will be taken over from the XKR, the layout will differ significantly.
A spokesman for Classic Factory had the following comment "The first car will be ready next year if planning goes as expected."
UK car finance buyers will need deep pockets to afford the first hand-built cars. With a price tag of between £640,000 and £850,000, not many working class people will be able to afford this one.
