Not many UK car finance drivers will disagree with the claim that the Jaguar E-Type is one of the most beautiful cars that has ever been built. When the car was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show 50 years ago, it stunned the motoring world with its sleek, aerodynamic shape and its high performance engine.
According to Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, the E-type set new standards against which other cars were subsequently measured. He continued to say that in a sense it was a burden, because he would simply never be able to create something comparable.
"It's impossible to overstate the impact the E-Type had when it was unveiled" he continued.
The E-type's 50th anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year with special E-type tributes at motoring events such as the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Goodwood's Revival and Festival of Speed and the Nuerburgring Old Timer Grand Prix
The series 1 E-type was built from 1961 to 1968. A UK car finance buyer who owns one of these rare collectors cars can easily get around €100 000 for it at a classic car auction. Even today fans are still swooning over the finer design details of the car, such as the elliptical grille in the front and the covered glass headlights.
Later models had to comply with strict U.S. safety requirements, such as open round headlights and bigger bumpers, spoiling the clean lines of the original design to a certain extent.
A racing driver of the time, Jackie Stewart, had this to say "In its purest form it was an incredibly beautiful car. Its lines were so clean. It revolutionised motoring and everyone wanted one."
