Land Rover Workers Return to Work Early to Handle Soaring Demand

While many brand names in the automotive business have been struggling, 2011 has been a bumper year for Land Rover.  So much so that the Christmas/New Year break has been cut short for the company’s workers, who are returning early to cope with continued high demand for the vehicles.

Land Rover’s decision to wrest the fundamentals out of the Freelander 2 and transpose them into the stylish new Range Rover Evoque has paid rich dividends: car finance and sales for the Evoque have soared.  A total of 18,000 were sold before the model had been launched – and plenty more people have been keen to take out a car loan for the car throughout the year, keeping sales figures exceptionally healthy.

Workers at the Solihull plant were scheduled to return on the 3rd January but ended up clocking in on the 30th December, so strongly has demand for the Evoque been rising.  Also, it looks as though car credit applications for Land Rover’s vehicles will continue to rise in 2012: the company is boosting its Solihull workforce by 1,000 in 2012, bringing the plant’s headcount to 5,500.

It is not simply the Evoque that has sent customers aquiver; the rest of the Land Rover range is also selling extraordinarily well.  Jaguar Land Rover spokesman Nick O’Donnell commented:

“We have seen strong growth in emerging markets such as China, Russia, India, etc.  In the year to the end of November, we have seen Range Rover up by 27.4 per cent, Range Rover Sport by 18.9 per cent, Discovery by 16.5 per cent and the Defender by 10.1 per cent.  All of which augers well for 2012.”
