Land Rover from China for the Tata Group

Jul 4 2010
India is emerging as a major outsourcing destination in the auto industry with many famous brands like Ford, Hyundai deciding to source some of the parts from this country. One of its major industrial houses – the Tata Group acquired famous brands like the Jaguar as well as the Land Rover from an auto major like Ford in the year 2008 and has already taken the right steps to move some of the manufacturing activity required for these brands into China.
The group wants to ensure that the luxury models made by them remain very competitive in the tough Chinese market and the only way to do that is to make many of its parts using cheap labour that is available in plenty in China.
The CEO for Tata Motors, Carl-Peter Forster was clear about the fact that they want to start making Land Rover cars making use of Chinese infrastructure and labour. He was hopeful of assembling close to 40,000 vehicles every year out of those facilities. In fact, he believes that the Chinese market is a very important one for the group considering the high savings rate and the fact that these models will have attractive car finance schemes backing them.
