Drivers of sports cars are perceived by many to be "flashy", according to a new survey conducted by an insurance company.

Car Loans customers considering splashing out on a new sports car, such as a Ferrari, would be among those that 22 per cent think of as "flashy", Saga reports.

However, sports car drivers are seen as wealthy by more than half of respondents, Car Finance customers may be interested to know.

By contrast, owners of MPVs were perceived to be the wealthiest by just one per cent of those surveyed, while drivers of family saloons were considered to be the least fashionable.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Services, says: "It seems drivers and pedestrians alike hold strong views on particular car types."

Meanwhile, the reputation of the Ferrari marque as one of the most prestigious manufacturers is sure to be enhanced by the launch of the new California model and its accompanying video directed by Michael Mann.
