One of the UK's most senior police officers has been banned from driving after being caught speeding at 90 mph.
Meredydd Hughes, the chief constable of the South Yorkshire police force, has been disqualified from driving for 42 days and fined £350 after being caught in a 60 mph zone in Wrexham in May.
Car Loans customers may remember that Mr Hughes stepped down from his position as chair of roads policing at the Association of Chief Police Officers after the offence was made public in October. Any future Car Finance and Car Credit deals are likely to be affected as a result of this conviction.
Mr Hughes' solicitor Huw Edwards told the BBC: "He doesn't seek to make any excuse about this matter. He totally accepts that the police have a duty to do. He is no exception and he accepts that he must be punished for the offence.
"He asks me to apologise for the offence. He recognises that the matter is a serious matter."
In June, Mr Hughes called for the introduction of "less conspicuous" speed cameras to catch more speeding drivers.
